Terms of service

1. The agreement

These terms are between you and Bytepic ("we", "us"), the publisher of ClipForge. They apply when you use the ClipForge application, the hosted control plane we operate at bytepic-clipforge.web.app, or this website. If you do not accept them, do not use the service.

If you run your own copy of ClipForge against your own Firebase project, only the software licence in section 8 applies to you — there is no service of ours in your path.

2. What ClipForge is

ClipForge is software that ingests long-form video, transcribes and analyses it on your own hardware, cuts vertical clips, and publishes the ones you approve to a video platform you have connected. The expensive work happens on your machine. What we host is a control plane: sign-in, a small amount of job and clip metadata, notifications, and a short-lived copy of a clip so you can review it on a phone.

It is free. There is no subscription, no seat and nothing to buy, and nothing in these terms obliges us to keep operating the hosted parts.

3. Accounts and approval

You sign in with a Google account. Registration is open, but access is not: a new account is inert until an administrator approves it, and can read nothing in the meantime.

Keep your Google account secure — anyone who controls it controls your ClipForge access. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised. You must be old enough to hold a Google account in your country, and at least 13.

An approved workspace is shared. Every approved member can see every job, clip and publication in it. Do not submit material you are unwilling to show the other members of your deployment.

4. Your content and your rights

You keep every right you already had in the video you process. We claim no ownership of it and no licence to it beyond what is technically required to run the features you asked for — storing metadata, holding a clip briefly so it can be reviewed, and transmitting what you approve to the platform you chose.

You are responsible for having the right to process and publish what you put through ClipForge. When you publish, the app asks you to record the basis on which you hold that right — licensed, permission granted, public domain, or an assertion of fair use — and that record is stored with the publication. Recording a basis is not legal advice and does not make an infringing upload lawful; it exists so the question is asked before the upload rather than after a strike.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to use ClipForge to:

• infringe copyright, trade marks, privacy or any other right;
• produce or publish material that is unlawful where you are, or that breaks the rules of the platform you are publishing to;
• create sexual content involving minors, or non-consensual intimate imagery of anyone;
• impersonate a real person or organisation, or present fabricated footage as genuine;
• circumvent the quota, rate limits or security rules of this service or any service it connects to;
• attack, overload or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the hosted infrastructure or to another member's data.

Security research is welcome. Report what you find to the address below rather than to the internet, and we will not come after you for it.

6. Third-party services

ClipForge connects to services we do not control — Google Firebase for the control plane, and YouTube for publishing. Your use of those is governed by their own terms, including the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. A strike, suspension or quota decision made by one of those platforms is theirs, not ours, and we cannot reverse it.

You can withdraw ClipForge's access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

7. Availability and limits

There is no uptime commitment. The hosted control plane runs on a free tier and may be interrupted, rate-limited or withdrawn. Real limits you should expect:

• A clip held for review is deleted after five days, and sooner once you have reviewed it.
• YouTube's own API allowance permits roughly six uploads per day per project, and resets at midnight Pacific time.
• Nothing progresses while your worker is not running. Jobs wait; they do not fail.

Keep your own copies. The copy of a clip that matters is the one on your machine, and that is by design.

8. Licence

The ClipForge source code is released under the MIT licence, whose text governs your use of the code, including the right to run, modify and redistribute it. Nothing in these terms takes away a right the MIT licence gives you.

The ClipForge name and logo are ours. The licence covers the code, not the brand: do not use them in a way that suggests we published or endorsed your fork.

9. No warranty

The service and the software are provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that clip selection will be good, that a transcript will be accurate, that an upload will succeed, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

Where local law gives you consumer rights that cannot be excluded, this section does not exclude them.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, nor for lost revenue, lost data, lost footage, lost audience or a lost opportunity, arising out of your use of ClipForge — including anything published, wrongly published, or not published by it.

Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us for it, which is zero. Nothing here limits liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, where that limit would be unlawful.

11. Suspension and termination

You may stop at any time: revoke access at Google, and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or remove an account that breaks section 5 or that puts the service or another member at risk — normally with notice, and immediately where the risk is serious.

Sections 4, 9, 10 and 13 survive termination.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top changes, material changes are announced in the app, and every previous version is in the project's public git history. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws applicable at Bytepic's principal place of business, and any dispute will be brought before the courts of that place. If a provision is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
